Max Randal

Max Randal (b. 1999) is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano at the University of Colorado Boulder, in the studio of Dr. Margaret McDonald and Dr. Alexandra Nguyen. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he studied solo performance with Karen Ann Krieger, collaborative techniques with Dean Melissa Rose, organ and baroque realization with Dr. Polly Brecht, and advanced musicianship with Marianne Ploger, while singing in the Vanderbilt Chorale and Nashville Symphony Chorus. Max has also studied computer science, and is now the Lead Musical Engineer at Edify Technologies (developers of MusiQuest) and creator of the cross-platform ear training app Intonalogy.

Max is an experienced transcriber and arranger. Since 2012, he has enjoyed creating numerous piano arrangements of soundtracks and classic tunes by ear. Max is also a composer of piano and chamber music, with the goal of creating emotional landscapes on the canvas of tonal harmony. Outside of music, Max is an avid distance runner, with first place finishes in the Nashville Marathon in 2018 and 2022. He has also participated in three Boston Marathons and holds personal bests of 2:26 in the marathon and 14:53 in the 5K.
